Berounka River Valley
Plan a full-day trip
You can combine your visit with a trip to Karlštejn Castle, Křivoklát Castle, Lány Chateau, or the limestone Koněprusy Caves. You can also enjoy a walk along the Berounka River or a cycling trip, including a tour of Nižbor Castle, which serves as an information center for Celtic culture.
The surrounding Křivoklát forests and the nearby Český kras region offer rich cultural, sports, and recreational opportunities.
The glassworks is located in Nižbor in the Central Bohemian Region, in the picturesque Berounka River valley, just a 35-minute drive from the center of Prague or 45 minutes from Plzeň.
Parking is available at our visitor center or in the nearby area. The glassworks is also easily accessible by public train and bus transportation.
White storks are members of the Rückl family
Storks have been inseparably linked to the glassworks since time immemorial. For a long time we have been keeping a stork Miss Maruška in the detention station in the glassworks area and in the beginning of autumn 2023 we added a new stork Tonda. Both of our storks have been seriously injured and therefore cannot return to the wild.
Although the products are always unique and unrepeatable thanks to the handmade production of the Rückl glassworks, they have all been united by one thing since the end of the 19th century – the image of a stork with a stopper in its beak. The symbolism of the bird, which across cultures foretells a happy future and new births, is no coincidence. The white feathered bird became a symbol mainly thanks to the intensive cooperation with pharmaceutical distributors, with whom the family glassworks from the Antonín Rückl and Sons portfolio established close cooperation as early as the 1870s.
